Latchkey & Summer Rec Camp

Welcome to the City of Cheyenne Childcare Programs.

The Latchkey and Summer Rec Camp programs strive to provide a safe and fun environment for our participants while enriching the life of every child who walks through our door. We provide care for children in kindergarten through the summer after they’ve completed 6th grade.

Weather Policy – If the School District is closed due to bad weather, the City Recreation Division Programs will also be closed.

Latchkey

2024-2025 Latchkey

The Latchkey program offers before and after school care for elementary school children in Cheyenne. Transportation is provided to majority of schools, but availability is limited. For further details, please reach out to Jade Herstein at jherstein@cheyennecity.org or (307) 286-5117.

 

Open Registration (for new families):

  • July 15, 2024
  • Hosted at the Kiwanis Community House
  • Registration starts at 7:30 AM
  • Spots will be limited. Please reach out in advance for details.

 

The Latchkey program is dedicated to creating a safe and enjoyable environment for children every day. We encourage positive attitudes and promote active participation. Our goal is to enrich the lives of every child who joins our program as they grow and experience their elementary school years.

2024/2025 Dates, Hours & Locations

  • Dates: August 26, 2024 to June 4, 2025
  • Hours: 6:45 AM to 5:45 PM
  • Location: Pioneer Park Center: 1331 Talbot Court
  • Closures are the same as the City of Cheyenne office holidays and closures. The program also follows any LCSD#1 weather closures.

Fees

  • $270 monthly per child (prorated cost in August 2024 and June 2025)
  • $35 supply fee per child at registration.

Summer Rec Camp 2025

Registration

  • Pre-registration: March 3rd-12th, 2025
    • ONLY for current Latchkey participants and participants of the 2024 Summer Rec Camp program.
  • Open registration: Monday March 17th, 2025, at 7:30 AM
    • In person ONLY at the Kiwanis Community House.
    • Very limited spots available!
      • Contact Jade Herstein before registration for more details.
    • $235/child due at registration.
      • Covers the supply fee and $200 will be applied towards the overall balance as long as the child does not withdraw from the program.

Total Cost: $1,625/child

  • Program fee of $1,590 and a supply fee of $35 per child.
    • The total balance must be paid by June 6th. Payments plans will be offered at registration.

Program Date

  • June 9th to August 15th, 2025

Ages

  • Pre-K through 6th Grade
    • For children in Pre-K the child MUST be a current student in the LCSD#1 (Laramie County School District #1) Pre-K program during the 2024-2025 school year  to qualify to register.
      • Children from any other Pre-K program outside of the LCSD#1 program WILL NOT qualify to register for the 2025 summer.

Easter Egg Hunt - March 30th, 2024

Easter Egg Hunt

Come enjoy an Easter egg hunt with the chance to win an extra special basket. It’s encouraged to bring your empty Easter baskets for the hunt, and this is a free event to the public.

Date:  March 30th, 2024

Location:  Holliday Park (west side)

Time:  10:00am Sharp

Ages:  2-8 years old

  • Bring a basket or bag to collect eggs.
  • Parents can help children 3 years old and under. We ask for children four and older to hunt independently.
