Welcome to the City of Cheyenne Childcare Programs.

The Latchkey and Summer Rec Camp programs strive to provide a safe and fun environment for our participants while enriching the life of every child who walks through our door. We provide care for children in kindergarten through the summer after they’ve completed 6th grade.

Weather Policy – If the School District is closed due to bad weather, the City Recreation Division Programs will also be closed.

Latchkey

2025-2026 Latchkey

The Latchkey program offers before and after school care for elementary school children in Cheyenne. Transportation is provides to the majority of schools, but availability is limited. Fir further details, please contact Jade Herstein at jherstein@cheyennecity.org or (307) 286-5117.

Registration is currently open for new families!

  • Open registration is at the Kiwanis Community House.
  • Spots are very limited.
  • Required at registration is a $35 supply fee and first month program fee payment per child. The program also needs a copy of your child’s immunization records.

The Latchkey program is dedicated to creating a safe and enjoyable environment for children every day. Our overall goal is to enrich the lives of every child who joins our program as they grow and experience their elementary school years.

2025-2026 Dates, Hours, and Locations

  • August 25, 2025 to June 3, 2026
  • Hours: 6:45 AM to 5:45 PM
  • Location: Pioneer Park Center: 1331 Talbot Court
  • Closures are the same as the City of Cheyenne office holidays and closures. The program also follows any LCSD#1 weather closures.

Fees

  • $270 monthly per child (prorated cost in August 2025 and June 2026)
  • $35 supply fee per child at registration.

Summer Rec Camp 2026

Registration:

Pre-registration: March 1st-11th

  • ONLY for current Latchkey participants and participants of the 2025 Summer Rec Camp program.

Open registration: March 16th

  • In person ONLY at the Kiwanis Community House (4603 Lions Park Drive).
  • Very limited spot available!
  • Doors open at 7:30 AM
  • $235/child and a copy of each child’s immunization record due at time of registration.
    • $200 will be applied towards the program balance if your child remains in the program for the entire 10-weeks.
    • $35 is a one-time supply fee for the program.

Program Cost:

The total cost of the program is $1,825 per child.

  • Payment plans are available at registration. The total balance is due by June 5th for families not enrolled in the Latchkey program.
  • We do not offer any part-time care.

Authorized Grades for Registration:

PreK-6th Grade

  • Grades are determined by the last grade completed and NOT by the grade the child is entering for the upcoming school year.
  • For children in Pre-K the child MUST BE A CURRENT student in the LCSD#1 (Laramie County School District #1) Pre-K program for the 2025-2026 school year. Children enrolled in any other Pre-K program do not qualify to register for the 2026 summer program.

  • Variety of activities to keep your child engaged and active during the summer months.
  • Daily field trips (included in the program cost).
  • Morning and afternoon snack and juice.

Easter Egg Hunt - April 4, 2026

Bring your best Easter basket and join us for the childcare-sponsored annual Easter egg hunt. There is a chance to win an extra special basket by finding a prize egg during this free event!

Ages:

2 to 8 years old

  • Children will be divided into age groups for the hunt.
  • Parents can help children who are 3 years old and younger.
  • Children 4 years old to 8 years old are asked to hunt independently.
